Learning Development at Weston College

Our aim at Weston College is for all learners with additional support needs to have equal access to the curriculum and work towards meeting their full learning potential with our support.

Weston College has a dedicated and highly qualified learning support team who will arrange the necessary support that you may need.  We are able to provide a range of support to meet your individual needs through a multi-agency approach.

Referral for Learning Development can be through:

  • School referral/Connexions
  • Pre-entry identifications (during interview)
  • Enrolments/Admissions
  • Screening assessment
  • Self referral
  • Tutor referral.

A referral can take place at any time during your course.  Once you are referred to the Learning Development team, an appointment is arranged for you to complete an initial needs assessment with a Learning Development tuotor.  This is to establish your support requirements which will then be put into place.

In Learning Development we can support your individual needs by offering the following types of support:

  • 1:1 Tuition (specific teaching in Literacy/ Numeracy /Dyslexia/ ARROW/Study Skills)
  • Generic In-class Support (Where a number of students in the group have specific learning difficulties).
  • 1:1 In-class Support (where a student has a learning difficulty which requires a support worker with the student 1:!).
  • Small Group Tuition (where a number of students in the group require additional teaching g in one area e.g. research).
  • Workshop based tuition ( a session which allows a Learning Development tutor to teach small groups within a timetabled session e.g. assignment writing time/group tutorials)
  • Equipment support (we are able to provide educational materials when identified as necessary and appropriate).
