About Weston College Apprenticeship Service
Weston College’s Apprenticeship Service works to fulfil the full potential of young people in new careers to learn skills and gain qualifications whilst gaining valuable experience and pay in the workplace. We offer over 40 different Apprenticeships covering many different industry sectors and areas of business. Current funding is limited to candidates aged 16-18 years.

How does the apprenticeship work?
Assessments are carried out through projects, practical skills tests and observations of you at work. You will have a personal Assessor who is a specialist in their area, they will support and guide you throughout your qualification. Your Assessor will visit you at your place of work, usually every 3-4 weeks, review your progress; observe and assess your performance and plan the next stage towards the achievement of your qualification.

The qualification will be gained by one-to-one assessments in your workplace and by you producing a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate competence. Assessment will be against a set of national standards which the industry believes are essential to effectively perform the role.

Having an Assessor who visits you at work is a really convenient way of doing a qualification as it means that you receive one-to-one support, your NVQ will be tailored to your needs and you won’t have to travel anywhere.

How long will it take me to complete my apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships are very flexible, which means that there are no set timescales to start or finish an Apprenticeship. The amount of time will depend on each person’s experience and their own personal situation. On average, most people successfully complete within 12 - 18 months.

What are the costs?
Apprenticeships are open to those aged 16 years and over. The Business Enterprise Centre can access a range of financial subsidies, subject to certain eligibility criteria. The costs of training can be fully subsidised for people aged 16 - 18 – for candidates over 18 please ask us for details of current funding options. In cases where no subsidies are available, standard costs will apply.
