Course content and structure

This work-related degree level course will equip you with the practical skills; technical knowledge and contextual understanding you need to
create exciting and imaginative creative solutions. The content is primarily skills based with strong commercial links to the creative industries and local employers. You will also focus on the contextual aspects of art and design. The course aims to equip you with a relevant, thorough and up-to-date knowledge of the industry.
 

The course focuses on three main areas:

  • Professional and practical skills
  • The ‘business’ of being an artist
  • Art and design in context.

Lectures by visiting practitioners together with commissions/live projects will form an integral part of the course reflecting current trends and developments.
Work-based learning and professional practice may take place outside the College in galleries, studios and with art related businesses.

Taught sessions will take the form of:

  • Formal lectures
  • Practical workshops/ demonstrations
  • Project work
  • Guest speakers, seminars and debates.

Art and design degree level students have the opportunity to work in spacious, purpose-built and well equipped studios and workshops.

Entry Requirements

 

You will need a UCAS tariff of 200 UCAS points with at least 160 coming from a Level 3 Qualification (for example A Levels or BTEC National / Extended Diploma). Preferably 80 points should come from a related subject.

 

You should be passionate about a career in this area which will be reflected in a creative portfolio of work.

An interview will be required for entry to this programme.

 

Progression

After successful completion of this course you can progress to the BA (Hons) Applied Art and Design (Top-up:work based)  at Weston College.

Careers may include gallery administration/curating, running your own creative business, interior or set design, prop making, or practising as a professional artist or designer.
