This sector endorsed Foundation Degree has been developed as part of the government initiative to improve standards and status
within the early years sector.

The course has a proven track record with students achieving high standards in practical and theoretical work. Its relevance to practitioners is emphasised by the close liaison with Local Authority Children’s Services.

Our extensive experience working with practitioners in full-time employment enables us to take a flexible and supportive approach to meeting the needs of our workbased learners.

Course structure and content

Within the next few years all early years settings may require a graduate practitioner and this course is a significant step towards this, it also leads onto the new Early Years Professional Status (EYPS) qualification.

The course is designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge
you will need to develop your career. It aims to help you develop
sound theoretical and practical knowledge and understanding
about early years.

Areas of learning may include:

  • How children learn
  • Making learning visible
  • Safeguarding children
  • Working with families and carers
  • Managing and working with professionals
  • Holistic learning and development.

Entry Requirements

 

You will need a UCAS tariff of 200 UCAS points with at least 160 coming from a Level 3 Qualification (for example A Levels or BTEC National / Extended Diploma). Preferably 80 points should come from a related subject.

Plus, at least two years' experience of working (and currently working) in the sector. Candidates will be assessed on an individual basis.

Please be aware that you will be required to complete a new Criminal Records Bureau Enhanced Application through Bath Spa University as part of the admissions process for this course.

An interview will be required for entry to this programme.

 

Progression

You will have the opportunity to apply to progress to the Top-up year of the Honours on successful completion of this course.

Alternatively, this course will prepare you for a variety of senior
positions in the early years sector, including working towards the
Early Years Professional Status (EYPS) qualification.

If you wish to progress onto a PGCE, you will require Maths, English and Science GCSE grade C or above, it is possible to study these alongside the FdA whilst at College.
