This course will promote and develop standards in care and give individuals the opportunity to explore and develop their interest in the industry. Learners will have the opportunity to progress to the generic top-up course or pursue more specific professional routes.
The Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care practice is a course that delivers the specialist knowledge and skills required in practice whilst being underpinned by broad based academic learning. With an equal balance of theory and practice the course is designed to meet the development needs of the individual employee and the needs of the service.
Course structure and content
The overall aim of the course is to prepare an Assistant Practitioner
to work with a specified range of skills in partnership with others within national, regional and local employment arenas. The skills are based within the following categories:
Technical and work-related skills
Key and generic skills
Increased understanding of the world of work.

Interview information
Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed by their employer and a university representative and in some cases a member of staff from the College.
Entry Requirements
Offers will usually be based on UCAS tariff of 120 points from at
least one of the following:
- A Levels or vocational A Levels
- NVQ Level 3
- BTEC National Diploma
- The Access to Higher Education course, which should include credits at Level 2 Maths, English and Science.
You will also need three GCSEs at grade C or above preferably
to include English Language, Mathematics and a Science.
If you are unable to meet the academic entry requirements you will be assessed on an individual basis using evidence of accreditation and/or experiential learning.
You must be employed with the NHS or PCT and have an identified work-based mentor recognised and agreed as such by
the course team. You will need the support of your employer to do
this course.
Progression
Opportunities exist for graduates to continue their studies up to Honours Degree at our partner university. Upon completion of the
degree further opportunities may be identified with service providers to enhance the qualification within a career structure.
