About Weston College Apprenticeship Service
Weston College’s Apprenticeship Service works to fulfil the full potential of young people in new careers to learn skills and gain qualifications whilst gaining valuable experience and pay in the workplace. We offer over 40 different Apprenticeships covering many different industry sectors and areas of business. Current funding is limited to candidates aged 16-18 years.

The Role
You will be carrying out domiciliary visits to clients' homes. The work is varied and interesting. You will always be working alongside an experienced member of staff. Duties will range from personal care to carrying out shopping for the clients. Tasks may include all or some of the following: assisting service users to get up/go to bed, dressing and undressing, helping with personal hygiene such as going to the toilet, washing, bathing, shaving, hair care, and oral hygiene. Assisting with eating and drinking and dealing with dietary needs.


The Candidate
Full training will be provided to ensure that you have the necessary tools to do the job, however a good standard of education to GSCE level or equivalent is needed although all applications will be considered.
You will have the ability and confidence to work and assistance another member of staff and have a real passion for working with and caring for people. You will also need to posses excellent communication skills both written and verbally.

Salary
The salary will be an apprentice wage of £95 per week.

The Qualifications
Health and Social Care – NVQ Level 2

How does the apprenticeship work?
Assessments are carried out through projects, practical skills tests and observations of you at work. You will have a personal Assessor who is a specialist in Health and Social care who will support and guide you throughout your qualification. Your Assessor will visit you at your place of work, usually every 3-4 weeks, review your progress; observe and assess your performance and plan the next stage towards the achievement of your qualification.
The qualification will be gained by one-to-one assessment in your workplace and by you producing a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate competence. Assessment will be against a set of national standards which the industry believes are essential to effectively perform the role of a Trainee Domiciliary Care Assistant.
Having an Assessor who visits you at work is a really convenient way of doing a qualification as it means that you receive one-to-one support, your NVQ will be tailored to your needs and you won’t have to travel anywhere.


How long will it take me to complete my apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships are very flexible, which means that there are no set timescales to start or finish an apprenticeship. On average, most people successfully complete within 12 - 18 months.

What are the costs?
Apprenticeships are open to those aged 16 years and over. The Business Enterprise Centre can access a range of financial subsidies, subject to certain eligibility criteria. The costs of training can be fully subsidised for people aged 16 - 18 – for candidates over 18 please ask us for details of current funding options. In cases where no subsidies are available, standard costs will apply.

Permanent Job Opportunity on a Greek Island!

VLIHO YACHT CLUB - ISLAND OF LEFKAS - THE IONIAN SEA.

Chef required
A family run business is looking for a chef to work on the Island of Lefkas, such an exciting opportunity for the right candidate! You will report to the owners Vicky and Ruairi Bradley.

Main Responsibilities:
Prepare, cook and serve a variety of attractive menu meals that appeal to the Customers and are within agreed budgets; ensure at all times that sufficient stocks of ingredients are available, properly stored and used in rotation; supervise/support/motivate/develop the kitchen team to ensure a smooth and harmonious catering operation that happily delivers excellence at all times; ensure that all food hygiene requirements are met and maintained; accurately account for monies spent.

Principle Tasks:

  • Agree menus with the owners operate within agreed budgets and produce agreed catering profits.
  • When on duty personally to cook and supervise all meals prepared and delivered from the kitchen, so as to ensure that all such meals are appetising, attractive and enjoyable to eat.
  • At all times to order sufficient food stuffs, cleaning agents and other catering consumables so as to ensure adequate and satisfactory stocks are available, and stored in the approved manner at all times, without causing waste by over stocking.
  • Inspect all catering and cooking equipment and the kitchen itself regularly to ensure that it is clean, working efficiently and is safe to use.
  • Train to a high standard the kitchen staff in all aspects of their work, including the proper and safe use of all knives, tools and equipment, and to ensure that they know, understand and practise accepted hygiene standards, with regard to kitchen routines and their personal dress and hygiene.

Person Profile:
Flexible, mature and has a sense of humour. Loyal, understand and share the company’s aspirations, enjoy working with customers, recognise the skills and contribution of others in the whole team. These are all essential attributes that we are seeking. To drive would be helpful and a liking for water activities would be good, as would a love of sun, sea, and wonderful scenery! Initially the appointment will be for a probationary 6 months and then for the right person a permanent contract will be offered. Pay will be in the region of 7/8 Euros per hour, plus the payment of employment insurance, and 4 weeks holidays to be taken outside of the season, which is May through to October.

You will be working in a busy office environment carrying out administration duties such as; answering the telephone and taking messages, data input, photocopying, filing, general computer work etc. You will be working in a team, however be able to work on your own initiative when required.

The Candidate
A good standard of education to GSCE level or equivalent is needed although all applications will be considered.
You will already have the ability to work well under pressure and prioritise your workload. Good written and verbal skills and attention to detail are essential.
The ideal candidate will have a confident telephone manner, be self motivating and have a ECDL (IT) qualification

Salary
The salary will be an apprentice wage of £95 per week.

The Role

The successful candidate will be working alongside and assisting and being supported by the School Support Team.

This is an extremely varied role where some of your duties will include

  • Meeting and greeting students and visitors to the school
  • Assisting with maintaining the highest standards of safety and cleanliness of the school
  • Part of the team supervising students at lunchtime
  • Making sure you are on hand to assist with any queries from staff and pupils in a polite and friendly manner.

Is this right for me?

A good standard of education to GSCE level or equivalent is desirable , however, personal motivation and a passion to learn is essential, as is the ability to work alongside colleagues with the ability to use your initiative as necessary.
You will need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to work effectively with both pupils and staff of the school. Enthusiasm and a willingness to undertake all duties, including cleaning duties associated with the school, is essential. You will need to be adaptable to change and have a flexible approach to working.

Salary

The salary will be an apprentice wage of £193.14 per week.
Hours will be on a rota basis between Monday and Friday and will include some early starts.

You will be working in a professional and friendly First School in Worle. This will be a varied and interesting role, where you will be fully supported in your training. Your duties will include opening and distributing post, filing, photocopying, answering the phone (after training), typing up of documents and general office duties.

The Candidate
