Course structure and content
This course will provide you with a professional qualification to register as a counsellor with the British Association for Counselling
and Psychotherapy (BACP). You will be trained in the humanistic
approaches to counselling, integrating the practical skills and
theoretical knowledge required for a career in counselling.
This course is unique in its combination of three qualifications to provide you with excellent knowledge, understanding and skills in counselling. Whilst studying here you will also complete a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and a Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling. Both of these qualifications are
awarded by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding
Body, reflecting your proficiency in counselling skills which are necessary to work in health, care and education settings or in your
own private practice.
These qualifications are an integral part of your training to enhance
your career development and your progression to accreditation with the BACP; they cannot be taken independently.
There is an additional cost for these qualifications.
Module content includes:
- Developing self-awareness and reflectivity
- Working safely and ethically in counselling
- Humanistic perspectives of counselling
- Working with diverse client populations
- Understanding traumatic life events
- Personal development group
- Supervised counselling practice.
You are encouraged to find your own placement within the area of your interest, however tutors are able to signpost you in the right direction.
This course also involves 160 hours 1:1 supervised counselling hours with local counselling agencies.
Delivery method
Formal lectures including guest lectures from experts in the field, seminars including individual and group presentations, practical and experiential sessions, residential weekend.

Entry Requirements
You will need A Level 2 Counselling Skills Certificate Level 2 along with an openness to challenges and you must demonstrate maturity in your ability to reflect on your thoughts, behaviours and feelings.
You should also have achieved an A Level 3 course, for example an A Level in a related subject or an Advanced Certificate in Counselling.
You will also be required to complete a CRB form.
Progression
- An Honours Degree in Counselling
- Alternatively this course will prepare you for a variety of careers in the counselling field.
