Facilities

 

Over the last seven years, we have grown from a small college to the vibrant and expansive college that exists today. We have invested more than £30 million in developing our fantastic facilities – and there are more exciting building projects on the horizon.

As a degree level student, you will study at either the University or Knightstone campus, depending on what special facilities you need for your course.

Knightstone Campus
Our Knightstone Campus is just a few minutes’ walk from the town centre. Its high quality facilities include our Higher Education (HE) Centre with computer suites, a HE room in LibraryPlus, a social area and specific teaching rooms all specifically for degree level students.

You can also make use of other facilities which are open to all our students including: The Grove restaurant, hair, beauty and nail salons and a fitness suite.

University Campus
Our University Campus on Loxton Road, Weston-super-Mare, is 15 minutes by bus from the town centre, and a 10 minute walk from the beach. It has an A Level Centre and a Music, Media and a Creative Arts Centre. We have specialist studios which are exclusively dedicated to our degree level students.

Badgworth Equestrian and Animal Centre
This facility has indoor and outdoor arenas for horse riding and two stable blocks. It is an approved BHS riding school, and also offers dressage and show jumping lessons. It’s run as a business and provides a real insight into the animal and equestrian industry.

South West Skills Centre
The development of one of the most exciting and important skills training centres in the UK opened in 2010 on Locking Road, two miles from the town centre. It is split into three main areas:
Construction and Engineering Centre of Excellence
– to train students in a wide range of practical construction skills.
The Hub is our new centre which offers a number of Foundation Learning courses that provide an exciting,
safe and stimulating place to learn for 14-19 year olds.
Business Enterprise Centre is our specialist department designed to give businesses and their staff high quality, flexible, work-based training, apprenticeships and development programmes.

Outstanding facilities

We’re very proud of our facilities for degree level students at Weston College. Here are just a few.

Computers
The IT suites at Weston College are equipped with PCs and Apple Macs loaded with high quality software and easy access printing. We have more than 1,400 computers for students to use across all our campuses. It’s vital that you are able to use IT effectively, both as an aid to study and to prepare you for future employment – that’s why all our courses will help develop your IT skills. Our campuses also provide wireless Internet access across all areas.

Learning Resource Centres (LRC)
We have purpose-built LRCs at all our main campuses. Experienced and friendly staff are on hand to help you find the information you need.

Our LRCs offer:

  • Over 30,000 books, ebooks, journals and multimedia resources
  • Use of equipment: printers, photocopiers, laminators, binders and scanners
  • Access to computers and electronic resources
  • A variety of study spaces for individual or group study
  • A range of literature to advise you on your continued professional development.

Our LRC staff work closely with your partner university’s library service to make sure that you can use their printed and online resources.

Places to eat
We offer a choice of places to eat at all of our campuses, open from 8.30am Monday to Friday during term-time. There is a wide range of hot and cold meals, sandwiches, drinks and confectionery to choose from. The Grove is our outstanding training restaurant. It’s stylish and excellent value with a bar and high quality food, made by and served by our own hospitality students.

Keeping fit
Our fitness suite and gym has a range of cardiovascular equipment, strength stations and a free weights area.
We also have:

  • A well equipped sports hall, which is used for indoor football, basketball, volleyball and badminton
  • Sports fields and tennis courts
  • An indoor climbing wall.

We work with many local clubs through our Academy of Sport to give our students access to high quality facilities for football, rugby, basketball, cricket, badminton, swimming, squash, tennis and golf. There is also an extensive sports and activities programme, which is open to all our students Monday to Friday during term-time.
