Social Life

You will automatically be a member of your partner University Student Union and will therefore have access to and benefit from all the facilities and services of the university. This will include opportunities to participate in sport and university representative teams and a wealth of extra-curricular clubs and societies. In addition to being a member of the Student Union at your partner Higher Education Institution (HEI), you will also benefit from being a member of Weston College’s Student Union. The Student Union is here to represent, help and provide services to all students at the College. We encourage you to become involved in the Union to represent the specific needs of Degree Level students at the College. The Union can offer you:

NUS democracy and NUS Extra cards as well as student discount information International Student Identity Card (ISIC)

Freshers’ week

The College arranges its own Freshers’/Induction programme which provides an introduction to life in Weston and your partner HEI. We’ll make sure that you have fun, make friends and ease yourself into the academic side of life by meeting your tutors and fellow students. During this week you’ll find out about the facilities and services both at Weston College and your partner HEI. Events and activities are specifically run to enable you to get to know other HE students at the College. These events include: karaoke, pub golf, eat as much as you can competition, beach BBQ, treasure hunt and paintballing.

Wide range of activities

We offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities including:

• Cultural visits to European cities
• Driving school
• First aid
• Live jam sessions
• Millennium Volunteers
• Paintballing
• Parties
• Self-defence
• Ten-pin bowling
• Website creation.

There is also the opportunity to take part in a variety of clubs and societies including: International Students, LGBT support group and Christian Union. Our partnerships with local sports providers give us the ability to offer a full range of sports activities in the Weston area.

HE Student Voice

We take student views very seriously and want to make sure we listen and respond to your opinions. There are plenty of ways to get involved. Each course elects Student Representatives from each year to express the views of their group. These students attend staff student liaison committees to review academic issues and the student forum that focuses on the student experience and the cross college issues.

There will also be other opportunities for all students to express their opinions.
