Beauty Students ‘Made-up’ By Professional Artist
A former student returned to Weston College last week to give Beauty Therapy students an insight into her career as a professional make-up artist.
Freelance make-up artist Vicki Ashlin held a workshop with NVQ Level 2 Beauty Therapy students, which included a make-up demonstration and showing examples of her work, from catwalk and bridal to photographic.
Former College student Vicki also spoke to the group about potential career options and her professional journey since leaving the College.
Vicki said: “I trained at Weston College as a Beauty Therapist 13 years ago and have been in the make-up industry since. This year I designed the make-up range that the students use so it’s nice to see, from sitting where I did 13 years ago, what can be achieved.”
Student Maria Cox said: “The workshop was really useful and provided a great insight into the world of a make-up artist. It was also great to see how well a former student had done since finishing the course; it was very inspiring.”
The workshop, which gave students the opportunity to hone their make-up skills, was organised to support the application of make-up unit of the NVQ Level2 Beauty Therapy course.
Nichola Sackley, Curriculum Manager for Beauty at the College, said: “We were delighted to welcome a former student back to the College. Vicki is a perfect example of where hard work, motivation and talent can get you – and she is a great inspiration to our students.”
Vicki also works as a trainer for College Kits Direct; a bespoke supplier of beauty kits, hairdressing kits and salonwear to colleges and private training academies.
