Local Bands Battle for Chance to Play at Glastonbury

Weston College are holding the Somerset heat of the Battle of the Bands competition this weekend, providing youngsters across the county with an opportunity to play at Glastonbury Festival.

The local heat of the Battle of the Bands competition, which is organised by Avon and Somerset Police, is open to the public and being held at the College’s University Campus, Loxton Road, this Saturday (March 13th) from 11am – 4pm.

15 bands from across Bristol, Bath, Somerset and South Gloucestershire have all entered the competition to win the chance to play at this year's Glastonbury Festival. Other prizes up for grabs include i-Tunes vouchers and time in a recording studio.

The competition was launched to enable the neighbourhood police teams to build positive relationships with young people. Last year the winning band, The Fuel, went on to play on the BBC Introducing Stage at Glastonbury and have had an extremely successful year.

Danny McMahon, lead singer with The Fuel, said: “I want to thank Avon and Somerset Police for giving us this amazing opportunity. We would thoroughly recommend any young band or musician to enter this competition; it has launched so many fantastic things for us. To play at Glastonbury Festival was a dream.”

Sarah Clark, Head of Creative Arts, said: “Battle of the Bands provides a great opportunity for young people across the area to perform their music live and be in with a chance of playing at the famous Glastonbury festival.”

She added: “We’re looking forward to hearing the diversity of music at the weekend and welcome the public to come along and support the bands!”

There will be refreshments available on the day. Please contact Weston College on 01934 411681 for further information.
