Outstanding Students Recognised
The achievements of more than 100 Sports and Public Services students from Weston College were recognised at a glittering awards ceremony at the Royal Hotel in Weston-super-Mare.
The young people and their tutors enjoyed a formal dinner before awards were presented to those who have demonstrated outstanding effort and achieved excellent results.
Prizes were awarded for achievement in sports ranging from netball and cricket to martial arts and both men’s and women’s football and rugby.
And Public Services students were recognised for their academic excellence, commitment to their chosen career-path, motivation and enthusiasm.
Mason Brown, Matthew Munday, Lisa Seagrove and James Carlyon were named Sports Students of the Year and Public Services Students of the Year were Henry Gumble, Joe Green, Sid Sutton, Ashley Tucker and Mitchel Davies who was also presented with the exam-body NCFE Student of the Year.
Rhiannon Tottle was awarded Sportswoman of the Year and the prize for Rugby Player of the Year, Sportsman of the Year was Haydn Bailey.
Weston College’s A Level Curriculum Manager Jane Watkins was guest speaker at the end-of-year event.
She praised the achievements of all the students and said: “It was a real honour to attend such a wonderful evening in which outstanding sporting and academic achievements were recognised.”
The ceremony was attended by all final year Sport and Public Services students, those who are returning in September to complete Year 2 of their course, and those progressing to higher levels courses at the College or elsewhere.
