IT Boys Put Weston on WorldSkills Map
Two talented students from Weston College have excelled in an international competition to find the best young web designers in the world.
Radoslav Angelov, 19, and Andy Potts, 18, both won their respective classes in the regional levels of the WorldSkills Web Design Competition and went on to compete at the higher level round of the contest in Milton Keynes.
There, Andy was awarded the Gold Medal at Intermediate Level, beating off competition from all around the country. He will receive the medal at a glittering ceremony in London in November.
Andy, from Weston, said contestants had to design and develop a 12-page website about a driving school for the finals of the competition.
“I knew it would be hard to get it done in the time but I thought I’d give it my best,” he said.
“We were doing it in the middle of a shopping centre with people looking over our shoulders which was quite challenging.
“When I heard I’d won, I was quite excited and realised I might actually be quite good at website design!”
Radoslav, who competed at Advanced Level, is already a proficient web developer. He was originally acclaimed by the WorldSkills judges for his design of a CD and DVD website. At the higher level, he too produced a design for a driving school.
“Getting through to the UK finals of the WorldSkills competition means a lot to me because so many people entered. I was exited to be able to compete doing something I really enjoy,” he said.
