Each year students from across the College have the opportunity to visit places in the UK, Europe and beyond, some with their course, others are organised by the Students’ Union.

Visits and trips

Visits and trips are an important part of the Weston College learning experience. There are many opportunities to travel and participate in a
rangeof activities that are designed to broaden students’ understanding and experience beyond the boundaries of the College. Below are examples of
the kind of trips you may have the opportunity to go on, depending on your chosen subject.

Travel opportunities in the UK

Students from across the College had the opportunity to go on various UK based trips including: Cardiff Bay Techniquest, Bath, Warwick Castle, Windsor Castle, Eton College, Stratford-upon-Avon, Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Exmoor, Crufts Dog Show, Badminton Horse Trials, RAF Brize Norton, Goblin Combe, Tropiquaria, Monkey World and many more…

Locally

Care and early years students took a trip to Charlton Farm Children’s Hospice in Wraxall whereas law students visited the North Somerset Courthouse (Magistrates’ Court) in Weston-super-Mare.

Bristol

We have a variety of trips to Bristol to places like Bristol Zoo, Explore @ Bristol, the Commonwealth & Empire Museum plus specialist trips including:

• Finger Printing Bureau, Portishead - Applied Science
• St Georges Hall, Bristol, Performance & Recording Day - Performing Arts
• Avon & Somerset Police Forensic Science Laboratory - Applied Science
• Her Majesty’s Prison, Horfield, Bristol - A Level
• Bristol Magistrates and Crown Court - A Level
• Bristol Old Vic - Performing Arts
• Bristol Climbing Centre - Public Services
• Bristol Royal Infirmary Hospital, Pathology Laboratory - Applied Science

London

There are a variety of trips to London including visits to Madame Tussauds and the Tower of London.

Beauty therapy students visited the Professional Beauty Show and the Olympia Beauty Show for ideas and inspiration whilst hair and beauty
students attended the Salon International Live Hairdressing Show.

Art and design students visited galleries and exhibitions including the Tate Modern, Tate Britain, the V & A Museum and studios at the Barbican, to
research and help them with their coursework.

Music technology students were privileged to be the only college students invited as guests at the BBC Maida Vale recording Studios, famous for the
Beatles association.

Hospitality students visited the famous Hotel Olympia and ESOL students visited the Houses of Parliament as part of an educational day out.

Devon and Cornwall

A Level students spent a week studying the geography and geology of Devon, including Exmoor and the coastline.

Art and design students visited Penzance for a week to paint, draw, photograph and be inspired by the local environment. Trips included a visit to the Tate Gallery, Barbara Hepworth’s House and Sculpture
Garden.

Scotland

Performing arts students performed in a professional capacity at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival following successful auditions.

Travel and tourism students went to Glasgow to attend the SECC Travel and Tourism Show.

Wales

Sport and public services students visited Chepstow Army Camp and went mountain walking in Snowdonia.

Europe and beyond

Bulgaria

Travel and tourism students visited Bulgaria to investigate the impact of tourism development on this new tourist destination.

Berlin

History students visited famous sights to improve their knowledge for their course.

Tunisia

Travel and tourism students organised a one week trip to Tunisia and visited the Great Mosque of Sidi Ogba and went trekking in the Sahara Desert.

New York

Students from the Business, Management and IT Department Faculties visited New York to learn about business in America. They attended the New York Business conference and visited some famous landmarks including the Empire State Building, Central Park, Ground Zero and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

Students from the Creative Arts Faculty, including music production, applied art and design, broadcast media and graphics, also visited New York taking in famous sights such as the Statue of Liberty, Guggenheim Museum, Manhattan and Broadway.

HE visits and revision days

We offer various course specific revision days in different universities for A Level students. Also some courses will have specific course related taster days, for example music technology students visit Bath Spa University. All Level 3 students have the opportunity to visit the University of the West
of England.

Team building days

Students from a range of courses attend team building days at the beginning of their course to help everyone get to know each other and work effectively as a group.

Exciting activities

All of our students have the opportunity to participate in a range of exciting activities and visits throughout the year, including paintballing, and visiting Alton Towers.
