Want to combine high quality education with your passion for rugby?

Successful applicants will study for an academic or vocational qualification at Weston College that is structured to run alongside the Rugby Academy. Players can take courses such as a BTEC in Sport (Levels 1 to 3), BTEC in Public Services (Levels 1 to 3) or varying A Level qualifications.

Want to train and play rugby in an environment mirroring that of a professional rugby club?

The Rugby Academy programme is designed to allow for individual and team development in and structured and professional environment mirroring that of a professional rugby club.

The Academy will provide you with:
• Up to 12 hours of professional rugby coaching per week
• Competitive fixtures in the South West Colleges league
Somerset Colleges league
British Colleges Cup
Daily Mail Cup.
• Opportunities to take part in 10’s and 7’s competitions.

As part of the program you will also receive guidance and education on team cohesion and development, nutrition, conditioning and psychology. Alongside this you will have the opportunity to undertake RFU accredited coaching courses.

Want to train and play rugby under guidance from professional coaches?
The Rugby Academy is run by highly qualified and experienced professional coaches. The coaches manage the players and the academy on a daily basis ensuring players are working equally hard both on and off the pitch. Training is designed to be fun, challenging and rewarding with players given the opportunity to develop at their own rate of learning. The coaches also work to educate the players on life skills for use outside of rugby such as teamwork, personal organisation, punctuality and self-discipline.

Academy Success
Over the last seven years the Weston College Rugby Academy has produced 7 men’s and 2 women’s South West Colleges players of which 5 men and 2 women have represented England Colleges at full international level. It has also produced a number of County players at both under 17 and under 18 level as well as South West u18’s as well as numerous players going on to represent their Club first XV. The Academies greatest success is second row Daniel Tuohy who is currently playing professional rugby for Ulster and has been capped by the full Irish international side.

The Future
The Academy is keen to welcome players from all local schools and clubs. We pride ourselves on our individual management of players, which allows you to continue to play for your chosen Club as well as the Academy side. We view this as a vitality important part of your playing development. We consider ourselves independent from any one club and feel we support all local clubs whose players are involved with us.
