Personal Tutors

All students of Weston College will have a Personal Tutor, who is responsible for ensuring that you receive all the support and guidance you require. Your personal tutor will support you to reflect on your progress towards personal and educational goals, to review and record your achievements to date and to  identify further steps you need to reach your goals.

Your personal tutor has a number of responsibilities:

Informing you about results, opportunities, event and facts
Advising you about preferred options using their expertise and knowledge
Listening to your thoughts, feelings, views, beliefs, preferences and strengths
Assessing your strengths, qualities and knowledge in relation to success criteria and in relation to others
Feeding Back to you the views of others and your assessment outcomes
Advocating on your behalf with staff, peers, the College and outside agencies
Coaching you to ensure your have skills and expertise required to achieve goals

As a student of Weston College you are entitled to the following tutorial support:

  1. Full induction to the College and your course
  2. Regular tutorials that will be either a group activity or a 1:1 discussion
  3. At least twice termly review of your progress, in all areas / subjects of your course, against your Individual Learning Plan targets, together with exploration of your plans for when you finish as a full time student of the college
  4. The development of general skills that will help you successfully complete your course, such as study and research skills and Portfolio building
  5. Support on personal issues with referral to specialist services if needed
  6. Providing a reference for University applications or employment for up to three years after leaving Weston College

Supporting your progress

All students at Weston College have a designated Personal Tutor who will coordinate all the support provided by college. They are responsible for:

  • Helping you complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) following your formal induction to college
  • Reviewing and recording your progress towards personal an educational goals and helping you to write and review your action plan
  • Ensuring you are aware of key administrative processes including exam entry
  • Advocating on your behalf with the college
  • Writing references for you for Higher Education or employment for up to three years after leaving Weston College
