Summer Schools are back for 2012!
Why not try your hand at anything from Art and Design to Fishing!
Below is a list of courses we have to offer for 10-18 year olds.
All courses below are FREE, book now to avoid dissapointment.
Courses on offer:
The Apprentice - For 13-17 year olds
Tuesday 24th July – Wednesday 25th July, 10:00-14:30
Location: Knightstone Campus
Are you the next Alan Sugar? During this course, you will compete against another team by undertaking an ‘Apprentice style’ challenge. You will then enter the board room, where one team will be fired and one team will be hired! A special treat awaits the winning team!
Art & Design - For 10-14 year olds
Monday 23rd July – Friday 27th July, 10:00-15:00
Location: University Campus
Develop skills in painting, drawing and mixed media. This workshop will be fun and experimental whilst developing art and design skills. You will receive a Weston College certificate in recognition of your work.
Drama - For 10-14 year olds
Monday 23rd July – Friday 27th July, 10:00-15:00
Location: Knightstone Campus - Events Centre
An exciting opportunity to work with the Wessex Academy of Performing Arts (WAPA) on a week of fun, friendship and acting skills. You will work on scripts, improvisations and creating your own plays with one of WAPA’s leading directors. A great way to gain confidence, meet new people and start your journey to stardom.
Rock Academy - For 13-17 year olds
Monday 23rd July – Friday 27th July, 10:00-15:00
Location: University Campus
Learn to make music using logic audio software. Learn to write hit songs. Anyone can do it! Bring your songs along and we can help you improve them. Register your band for band coaching sessions or come and develop your performance skills with other young musicians. We will be working on cover versions or original material to perform on the stage on the Friday evening of the 27th July from 5 to 7pm.
Robotics and Games Design - For 14-16 year olds
Tuesday 24th July - Thursday 26th July, 10:00-14:30
Location: Knightstone Campus
Learn how to design and create your own computer game and build and race your own robot using Lego Mindstorms.
Glee Club (Singing) - For 15-18 year olds
Monday 30th July – Friday 3rd August, 10:00-15:00
Location: University Campus
If you’ve always looked at singers on the TV and thought ‘I can do that’, then here is your opportunity! Join one of the Wessex Academy of Performing Arts top Musical Directors and work on all the skills that make singing for musical theatre the gleeful activity it is. Your stardom awaits!
Photography - For 15-18 year olds
Monday 30th July – Friday 3rd August, 10:00-15:00
Location: University Campus
Learn how to take good photos, covering the basics of photography and how to get the best out of your camera. Use digital SLR’s with more creative control. An
introduction to studio portraiture and location/landscape photography. Learn how to use Photoshop to enhance your images and produce exhibition prints of your work. An Ideal introduction for those thinking of studying photography.
Fashion
For 15-18 year olds: Monday 23rd July – Friday 27th July, 10:00-15:00
For 10-14 year olds: Monday 30th July – Friday 3rd August, 10:00-15:00

Recycle, reinvent and redesign. Explore your creativity through this exciting fashion workshop. Create original and modern clothing you can wear.
Car Maintenance
For 10-14 year olds: Monday 23rd July – Friday 27th July, 10:00-15:00
For 14-17 year olds: Monday 30th July – Friday 3rd August, 10:00-15:00
Location: South West Skills Campus
Working in our training garage you will get the opportunity to undertake basic maintenance tasks on one of our modern cars. This practical programme will allow you to explore how a car engine works ‘suck, squeeze, bang, and blow’ and undertake tasks such as pre MOT checks, basic services and changing wheels & tyres. In addition you will learn the skills and techniques of how to do a car valet.
Plumbing - For 14-17 year olds
Monday 23rd July – Friday 27th July, 10:00-15:00
Location: South West Skills Campus
Learn and develop your hand skills with this exciting opportunity to cut, bend, solder copper & plastic pipe work to enable you to install, maintain and repair typical kitchen and bathroom fittings. A terrific opportunity to work within a bespoke workshop with state-of-the-art tools, equipment and facilities giving you an insight into the hand skills required to be a skilled tradesperson.
Sport - For 13-15 year olds

An exciting experience awaits all as you will be actively involved in a variety of skills that will prepare you for a potential career in the sports industry. Test your fitness, develop your leadership and team work skills and compete in competitions.
Public Services - For 13-15 year olds
Option one: Monday 23rd July – Friday 27th July, 10:00-15:00
Option two: Monday 30th July – Friday 3rd August, 10:00-15:00

An exciting experience awaits all as you develop the skills required to enter the public services. The activities you will be involved in will include bush craft, team work and leadership skills, and competitions.
Survivor - For 15-18 year olds
Monday 23rd July – Friday 27th July, 10:00-15:00
Location: South West Sklls Campus
Take the classroom outside! Active learning in the outdoors – bush craft, woodland cookery, shelter building, eco shelters, learn more about your natural instincts to survive!
Fishing - For 15-18 year olds
Monday 23rd July – Friday 27th July, 10:00-15:00
Location: South West Skills Campus
Tuition from experts on the fishing techniques, opportunities to learn and develop own skills. Suitable for beginners, equipment will be provided.
Impressive Cooking - For 13-17 year olds
Option one: Monday 23rd July – Friday 27th July, 9:00-14:00
Option two: Monday 30th July – Friday 3rd August, 9:00-14:00
Location: Knightstone Campus
Learn the art of gastronomy in our bespoke hospitality and catering sessions. Learn how to prepare and cook soups and sauces suitable for restaurant service.You will also learn skills for cake design and decoration and apply these skills as you prepare a cake model with marzipan figurines for our end of week competition.
