  • Provides state-of-the-art equipment as well as industry-standard facilities and equipment
  • Courses are taught by staff who have industrial experience within the chosen subject
  • Works with over a thousand employers enabling students to gain real, live, exciting and hands-on work experience where applicable.

Weston College has been graded Outstanding by Ofsted, which means it is officially one of the highest-performing colleges in the country.

Ofsted noted that Weston College has “an extensive and successful range of full and part-time programmes for school students aged 14-16.”

The Ofsted inspectors said: “A vast majority of learners often achieve higher grades than expected”, and that they “receive outstanding support that ensures the vast majority of them reach their potential.

“The proportion of these learners who successfully complete their qualifications is very high, at 90%. As a result of their success, most of them continue to study at the College when they reach 16 years of age.”

The 14 to 16 Level 1 Link Programme

The Link works in partnership with local schools to provide opportunities to students at the time of their GCSE options.

What is the 14 to 16 Level 1 Link?

The 14 to 16 Link programme allows you, in Year 10 and 11, to work towards a vocational qualification. These qualifications are designed to complement your GCSE studies and give you practical, hands-on experience in a certain vocational area.

How is the 14 to 16 Level 1 Link Programme structured?

Students attend Weston College one afternoon per week for two years.

What will I study and how will I be assessed?

You will have the opportunity to study vocationally associated qualifications. All courses are assessed through practical and theoretical work, where you are required to produce a portfolio of evidence. All courses are recognised by employers and colleges nationwide.

Progression routes

At the end of the programme you can choose from a range of full-time courses at Weston College including Apprenticeships. Last year, 84% of learners progressed to further courses at Weston College.

For more information, speak to your head of year or tutor at school to find out if you would be suitable to access the Link provision at the time of choosing your GCSE options. If the school feels this route is right for you, they will refer you to meet with a Link co-ordinator at the College.
