Highways Maintenance Skilled Operative (Apprenticeship)

Introduction 

A Highways Maintenance Skilled Operative will undertake reactive and planned rural and urban roads maintenance and repair. They will work outside in all weathers and may be required to work at all times of the day and night at various locations. Working on rural and urban roads maintenance and repair can be dangerous so operatives need plenty of common sense and a high level of safety awareness, together with a disciplined and responsible approach whilst working with others. Understanding health and safety and environmental control will be essential to ensure safe working on rural and urban roads.

Entry Requirements

There are no other formal qualifications required to start this apprenticeship but you will be assessed to ensure you have the ability to complete the English and Maths qualification to at least level 1.

Functional Skills

Achievement of English and maths Level 1 and attempted Level 2 tests.

Duration

18-24 months.

Progression

After completion of this apprenticeship progression routes could be into Contracting Operations or Site Supervisory apprenticeships at level 3.

Funding 

This apprenticeship will be funded through the digital account for large employers and the non-levy co-investment model for smaller employers. There may be a fee for some employers.

End Assessment

The end point assessment will consist of a knowledge test and a skills test completed at the end of the training period.
