Introduction

Individuals in the role of a Professional Accounting/Tax Technician will have responsibility for creating, and/or verifying and reviewing accurate and timely financial information within the organisation in which they are employed or on behalf of another organisation. This will be performed in order to meet relevant ethical, professional and legal standards, and will utilise the individual’s knowledge of the business systems and processes, as well as standard accounting and tax practices. This role may exist in an accounting practice, a professional services company, HMRC or the accounting function of a business or other organisation. Examples of roles as a Professional Accounting/Tax Technician include, but are not limited to, Assistant Auditor, Assistant Management Accountant, Assistant Financial Accountant, Accounts Payable and Expenses Supervisor, Commercial Analyst, Payroll Manager, Senior Bookkeeper, Senior Financial Officer, Tax Investigations Officer, Personal Tax Assistant and Business Tax Assistant.

Entry requirements

You should hold the Advanced Diploma in Accounting Level 3 to start this apprenticeship or completed the Assistant apprenticeship. You will also be assessed to ensure you have the ability to complete the English and maths qualifications at level 2.

Functional skills

Apprentices will be required to have or achieve level 2 English and maths prior to completion of their Apprenticeship. If this has already been achieved, then development of further English and maths skills will continue for the whole of the apprenticeship.

Duration

It is anticipated that apprentices will typically complete the Standard within 18 months.

Progression

Continuation of studies to a Chartered Accountancy qualification e.g ACCA or CIMA.

Funding

Levy paying employers may fund apprentices on this programme from their Apprenticeship Account and non-levy paying SMEs through the co-funded option. There may be a small fee for some SME’s.

End point assessment

To achieve this apprenticeship standard, the employer, training provider and apprentice will agree when the apprentice is ready and competent to undertake the independent end assessment, which will test their skills knowledge and behaviours required for this role.
