FREE Courses for Adults in Bristol
UWE Bristol and Weston College have joined forces to provide adults in the Bristol area the opportunity to access Weston College's award-winning further education teaching, delivered at UWE's superb higher education facilities at its Frenchay Campus in Bristol.
For people aged 19+ who don't already have a Level 3 qualification, this new Skills Alliance can now offer several courses for FREE in Bristol that start this June.
The new initiative begins with a selection of courses covering a variety of subject areas - and as full Level 3 qualifications, they're ideal for individuals looking to retrain, upskill or progress on to university.
The courses and all associated examination fees are free - provided individuals live in the South West of England and do not already hold a Level 3 qualification.
Students will receive a mixture of classroom-based lectures from Weston College staff within the fantastic facilities of UWE Bristol, plus online learning and support available via a tutor.
The Prime Minister announced that as part of the Lifetime Skills Guarantee £95 million of funding would be made available through the National Skills Fund from April 2021 to provide learners aged 19+ to access their first full Level 3 qualification (equivalent to an A Level) for free. This fund provides access to qualifications that will help support people back into work, following the pandemic that has gripped our lives for the last 14 months.
Dr Paul Phillips CBE, Principal and Chief Executive, Weston College said: “We have for a number of years delivered education programmes in Bristol. This partnership, however, builds on an education offer with a focus on Level 3 skills and strengthens our longstanding partnership with our colleagues at UWE Bristol. Together we will be at the forefront to enable the Bristol community to access this funding and open doors to new and better jobs.
"Our offer will span a range of curriculum areas over the coming months allowing learners to access outstanding teaching and facilities plus receive innovative methods of teaching to reach their goals. This is the first tranche of our Skills Alliance offer and I encourage you to sign up to our email alerts at www.weston.ac.uk/bristol-courses to keep up-to-date with new initiatives and up-coming course opportunities.”
Professor Steve West CBE, Vice-Chancellor, President and Chief Executive Officer, UWE Bristol said: “We are delighted to be supporting the lifelong learning skills agenda. The opportunities offered by Weston College and UWE Bristol build on the quality and expertise of both institutions. By working together we can offer more access to the city region to help build stronger employment and education opportunities for everyone.”
