2016 - Students Celebrate Excellent Exam Results

Students and staff at Weston College were today (18th August) celebrating after achieving outstanding results in their A Level examinations.

The College maintained his high standards with an overall pass rate of 99% of students passing with grades from A*-E, the same as last year; 46% earned A*-B grades and 74% earned A*-C.

There were jubilant scenes at the College’s Loxton Campus as students collected and opened their envelopes.

Dr Paul Phillips OBE, Principal and Chief Executive of Weston College, said: “Year-after-year our A Level students are achieving outstanding academic results, and this year is no exception.

“This year, however, has seen a massive growth in A Level students, and overall we have still exceeded last year’s brilliant outcomes.

“Once again, the results demonstrate how the College has provided inspiring teaching, learning and support, and our students have worked extremely hard, and are now reaping the rewards for their efforts.

“Everyone involved can be very proud of their efforts and achievements, as we are proud of them.

“Wherever the students go next, I would like to thank them for their efforts, congratulate them on their results and wish them all the very best for their brighter futures.”

Among the top performing students was Isobel Johnson, from the Milton area of Weston, who achieved A* in English Literature and History, and an A in Art and Craft.

She is progressing to Birmingham University to study English and ultimately would like to go into publishing.

She said: “I’ve really enjoyed my time at Weston College; all the teachers have been so helpful, and the atmosphere is much more relaxed than a school sixth form.

“I went to a sixth form to start with but only stayed for a week and then came here and I am so glad I did.”

Anjolaoluwa Apata achieved A’s in Maths, Chemistry and Biology, and is now going to study at Bright and Sussex Medical School.

She said: “I am so pleased with my results.

“The teachers here are really engaging and enthusiastic about the courses they teach, which  encourages you to delve deeper into the different topics.

“I even had a mock interview with the Principal, who was very helpful in preparing for the word of work.”

Sam Foster earned A grades in Maths, Physics and Biology, and a B in Further Maths. He is now going on to study Maths at Manchester University, with a view to possibly going into teaching.

He said: “I’ve had a great time at Weston College; I’ve made quite a few good friends here, and the quality of teaching has been great overall.

“I really enjoyed some the trips we went on.

“I never needed any extra support or safeguarding help but I know some people who did, and the support they received was excellent.”

Lucy Poole has achieved her aim of going to Plymouth University to study primary teaching, specialising in PE after earning two A* grades, in English Literature and Advanced Psychology.

After learning about her results, a tearful Lucy said: “I have had an amazing time at Weston College. Everyone has been so helpful.”

Wayne Richards, head of Sixth Form at the College, added: “We are very proud of all our students who are to be congratulated on their A Level and BTEC results.

“Their achievements are a reflection and just reward for the hard work and commitment shown during the course of their studies. Their success was achieved through the development of a hugely important learning culture that had at its core an ethos of teamwork, communication and mutual respect between staff and students.

“We are looking forward to hearing when the students take up their offers at university and/or employment and begin their next stage, but I can assure you that all staff are grateful for the opportunity to have played a part in their journey here at the sixth form.”
