What Is It Like To Study Animal Management? Meet Madeleine …

Madeleine completed the Animal Management, BTEC Extended Diploma, in the Summer 2020.

It is a 2-year course that prepares you for a wide range of animal related jobs with both practical and class-room based lessons.

The course covers: breeding and genetics, animal biology, animal welfare, practical animal husbandry, animal behaviour, animal health and diseases, zoological animal health and husbandry, exotic animal husbandry, principles of animal nursing. The course also covers various different types of animals from aquatics to zoos animals.

We spend two days a week at Puxton Park and one day at the Knightstone campus, which gives us a great balance of theory and practical study.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, the team at Puxton supported you through animal duties and gave more information about how to look after certain species.

I have a lot of favourite memories, but my favourite would be doing the training unit and getting to work with rescue marmosets at Puxton Park. You make friends for life, I’ve had an amazing, confidence boosting experience.

I would like to say to the people who are enrolling on the animal management course or who are thinking of joining Weston College do it - you make memories for life, get to learn about what you are passionate about and get hands on experience with animals.

I would especially like to thank all of my lecturers who have supported me and who have worked with me and in particular Charlotte who has helped me progress into the future career of becoming an animal trainer!
