The opportunity to work in an innovative and forward-thinking brand new “super-prison” with an exceptional ethos and culture from the outset. A community culture will be promoted where prisoners will be able to assist the prison management team in establishing projects, processes and forum that meet the needs of the population.

As the UK’s first purpose-built resettlement prison, HMP Five Wells will prepare prisoners for their transition back into society, providing them with the skills and qualifications so they can turn away from crime. The prison and Education Department will benefit from the latest design and technology to enhance security and rehabilitation, and it will foster a purposeful environment that reflects life in the wider community, as well as focusing on the vocational and behavioural expectations of employers. In partnership with G4S, RESTART will provide exceptional opportunities for prisoners to gain nationally recognised vocational qualifications, in preparation for securing purposeful employment upon release.

Please see below additional useful information from our partners G4S, as they give their perspective on “A day in the life of” one of their prisons or Prison Custody Officers, with whom our education professionals will work in partnership.

Once HMP Five Wells is open, RESTART will be able to make its own education-focused films but in the meantime, the following films are a useful insight into the G4S culture and ethos.

Halo workplace logo

Our workplace champions the right of staff to embrace all Afro-hairstyles. We acknowledge that Afro-textured hair is an important part of our Black employees’ racial, ethnic, cultural, and religious identities, and requires specific styling for hair health and maintenance. We celebrate Afro-textured hair worn in all styles including, but not limited to, afros, locs, twists, braids, cornrows, fades, hair straightened through the application of heat or chemicals, weaves, wigs, headscarves, and wraps. In this workplace, we recognise and celebrate our colleagues’ identities. We are a community built on an ethos of equality and respect where hair texture and style have no bearing on an employee's ability to succeed.
