Early Years and Education, Traineeship

What will I do on this course?

The traineeship is a flexible programme designed to develop your workplace skills and knowledge and build your English and maths. It is suitable for those who wish to study an intermediate apprenticeship but have not yet gained an employer. It is also a good choice for those who may need a little longer to study at Level 2 or who need more time with English and maths in order to be ready to progress to Level 3.

You will attend College two to three days a week to study English, maths, employment rights and responsibilities and work towards the Early Years Practitioner Level 2 qualification. You will also undertake a traineeship placement two days per week.

Topics you will study in college include child and young person development, safeguarding the welfare of children and young people, supporting positive behaviour, working in services for children and young people, health and safety, supporting positive environments, child development, practical care, planning and implementing activities, and observation. All aspects of your study programme will be discussed at your interview.

How will I be assessed?

We’ll assess your English, maths, practical skills, projects and placement performance in college and in your work place.

What could I do after this course?

When you are able to secure an apprenticeship employer, the work you do on the traineeship will be carried over to your apprenticeship qualification. This makes it an excellent preparation for an apprenticeship. You could also progress to a full time Level 2 early years programme. If you achieve Level 2 functional skills or GCSE grade 4 in English and maths you could also progress onto the T Level programme. You could also progress to a full time Level 2 or Level 3 programme.

Entry Requirements
