Caring for Children, Certificate
This course provides the perfect introduction to working with and caring for children, acting as a steppingstone to progressing and gaining higher levelled qualifications to achieving a career in the field. You can guarantee in your work placement, no two days will be the same, and while it may be demanding, it will feel hugely rewarding when considering the impact you’ll have on a child’s growth and development.
This course is part of our Career Excellence Hubs, which brings you closer to industry than ever before. You will hear from people within the industry, who will equip you with the latest skills, to enhance your future career opportunities.
What will the course involve?
You will gain a broad understanding of the childcare sector and start to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours you need. You will also be offered a work placement to experience real work practice and demonstrate your skills.
You will cover a number of units, which will include planning a safe childcare environment, healthy eating, creative activities, physical play and supporting children’s learning through everyday experiences. You will also develop your English and maths skills to the level that most employers look for. This programme will give you practical skills, confidence and employability within the early years sector.
How will the course be assessed?
You will be assessed through written coursework, presentations and practical experiences.
Are there any additional costs?
You will be asked to wear an Education and Early Years polo top, which you will also wear in your work setting. You can also purchase an Education and Early Years hoddie.
What future study opportunities and careers are there?
This study programme is a steppingstone to further education at Level 2, a traineeship or an apprenticeship. However, the personal, social and work skills that you will gain will support your employment opportunities in all areas.

Entry Requirements
A genuine interest in working with people is an absolute necessity. You will also need five GCSEs at grade 3-1 with at least two at grade 3, or the successful completion of a pre-vocational programme. On enrolment you will be required to undertake a DBS check, which the College will pay for.
