Engineering and Manufacturing, T Level

This high-quality T Level Engineering programme can lead to an exciting career as an engineer. The qualification offers both a practical and academic focus and will provide you with skills, knowledge and understanding of subjects such as design, project, maths, materials and manufacturing principles within our Engineering Centre workshops and laboratories.

The qualification is made up of a technical qualification and an industry placement within an Engineering setting.

You will develop an understanding of a broad range of issues relevant to the sector, including:

  • Working within the Engineering and Manufacturing Sectors – an understanding of how materials, conditions and context influence design processes and products
  • Essential mathematics for engineering and manufacturing – a knowledge and understanding of mathematics including standard matrices and determinants and standard trigonometry
  • Materials and their properties – understanding material processing techniques and their effects on materials and material quality, the condition of materials, how these are managed, and materials testing methods and techniques
  • Business, commercial and financial awareness - basic commercial principles including commercial priorities and markets, customers/clients/partners and resource allocation.

You will study a common core in year one and specialise in an occupational route in year two with a choice of Design and Development, Manufacturing, Processing and Control (Composites) or Maintenance, Installation and Repair (Light Vehicle and Electric Vehicles).

How will I be assessed?

The common core is assessed by two external exams and an employer set project. In year two you will study the occupational competency element and complete an industry standard practical synoptic assessment.


Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs at grade 9-5, including English, maths and science or the successful completion of the Transition to T Level qualification. You will also be asked to attend an interview.
