What will I do on this course?
On this course you will gain a basic level of training in hairdressing, covering all the practical skills of a salon such as cutting, colouring and styling. Your personal skills and confidence will be developed to enable you to work effectively and professionally with clients and colleagues.
You will further develop your knowledge and apply the skills you have learned through working in a real-life commercial salon and attending work placements throughout the year.
As part of this study programme you will develop your maths and English skills, attend tutorials and Individual Development (ID) or Future Academy. You will also complete a work placement or extended industry placement. All aspects of your study programme will be discussed at your interview.
How will I be assessed?
You’ll be assessed through online tests, practical work, assignments and projects. You’ll have an online gradebook that you will keep up-to-date and manage targets that your tutor sets you throughout the year. You’ll be tested every term while being monitored by a local employer with external quality assurance. There are two written exams on this course.
What could I do after this course?
This course could lead to employment as a stylist or a hairdresser, the Level 3 qualification in Women’s Hairdressing or Barbering, or an apprenticeship in the hairdressing industry.
A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 9-2, including English or maths, with at least two at grade 4, or a qualifying Level 1 qualification.
