WHAT DOES THIS COURSE INVOLVE
The BTEC Certificate in IT, studied in year one, is an introductory level qualification that equips students with a broad understanding of IT concepts and practices. It covers a range of fundamental topics such as computer systems, hardware and software components, data management, website development, and computer networks. This qualification helps students develop the necessary skills to work in entry-level IT roles or progress to further study.
The BTEC Extended Certificate in IT, studied in year two, is a higher-level qualification that provides a more in-depth study of IT principles and practices. It delves into advanced topics such as programming, database design, system analysis, and project management. This enables students to acquire the skills needed for more specialised IT roles or to pursue higher education in IT-related fields.
This programme will improve your knowledge and practical skills in IT, IT systems, social media in business, data modelling, information management and website development. You will find out how computer systems work and learn to utilise different applications. Assignments are based on workplace situations, so you will get an insight to the careers available in IT and what it is like to work in the industry. The extended certificate is the equivalent to an A Level and can contribute to your UCAS points.

ASSESSMENT METHOD
You could progress to the degree in BSc (Hons) Applied Computing or a Degree Apprenticeship in Digital and Technological Solutions at University Centre Weston or seek employment in a related field.
FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES
You could apply to study history or a related subject at university, for example English and politics.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Five GCSEs at grade 9-4, including English and maths.
