Game and Animation Production, UAL Extended Diploma
What will I do on this course?
The UAL Extended Diploma focuses on animation and video games – officially the fastest-growing medium in the media industry. You’ll learn the skills needed to thrive in this exciting new environment and study individual products, as well as how the animation and game industry operates and functions.
The course explores a wide range of topics, including 2D artwork; character, creature and environment design; 3D character, environment and prop modelling; rigging; animation; lighting; rendering; digital painting; game design; storyboarding and narrative. You’ll also understand how these skills are used in the industries and how they interact with each another.
As part of this study programme you will develop your maths and English skills, attend tutorials and Individual Development (ID) or Future Academy. You will also complete a work placement or extended industry placement. All aspects of your study programme will be discussed at your interview.

How will I be assessed?
You’ll be assessed through practical projects in studios and workshops and written assignments.
What could I do after this course?
You could progress to a degree in computer animation, video game development, character concepts or art and design, or choose the Games and Animation Production degree at University Centre Weston. You will also be able to access studio junior or freelance animator roles.
You’ll need five GCSEs at grade 9-4, including English and an art-related subject, and a strong portfolio of work. You’ll also be asked to attend an interview.
