Access to HE Diploma: Animal Science
This course will give you the qualifications needed to study a university degree in an animal management related subject.
The Weston College Access team delivers highly academic programmes with a personalised approach, which results in success rates and progression to university being significantly higher than the national average for adults.
Be prepared to study hard. Although you will only be in college for 10 hours a week, you’ll be expected to study outside of this yourself. The good news is that you can do this anytime, anywhere, so it is still flexible to your needs.
You will study subjects such as zoo enclosure management, behaviour, exotic animal husbandry, vet nursing, welfare, conservation, behaviour, biology, chemistry. All learners receive tutorial sessions and also complete independent study units in study skills sessions.
This course could lead to progression to a variety of degree courses, including Foundation Degree in Animal Management at UCW. Other degree routes locally and nationally include Conservation, Wildlife Management, Behaviour, Zoology, Vet Nursing, Marine Biology and Welfare, amongst others. At Weston College, we work hard to provide a schedule of learning that fits in with your lifestyle. As the course is only two days per week, you have the potential to work and study if you wish. If you have no relevant work experience we recommend you find voluntary or paid work now in the animal management field to strengthen your university application.
Most people qualify for FREE tuition and material fees due to discounts we offer. If you are between 19 and 23, your tuition and exam fees could be free. All adult learners who are UK residents can take out up to four Advanced Learner Loans. Student Finance England will ‘write off’ any outstanding Advanced Learning Loan balances you owe for an eligible Access to HE course once you complete a higher education course.
Students on this course will need to buy uniform, which has an approximate cost of £50.
It is expected that applicants should have a GCSE grade 4/C in English and maths (level 2 equivalents will be considered, but applicants must check that this will be accepted by their chosen university prior to starting on the Access course).
iAn interview is required for this course.
