Access to HE Diploma: Computing
Looking to study computing at university but do not have the qualifications?
This course is designed for people aged over 19 years and is ideal if you want to change careers or start a career in Computing.
The Access to Higher Education Diploma (Computer Science) is designed to give adult learners an intensive introduction to this field, as well as boosting your study skills to prepare you for higher education.
The Access to HE Diploma is a Level 3 qualification equivalent to A Levels. It is designed for individuals who do not have traditional qualifications or a formal educational background, providing the necessary skill set to progress onto study at university and a subsequent career in a relevant field.

As well as enhancing your academic skills, our one-year course lets you explore a range of areas in the field of information technology (IT), including:
- Programming and mathematics
- Web design
- Networking
- Cyber security
- Databases and systems.
Fees
With the discounts we offer most people qualify for FREE tuition and material fees. If you are aged 19- 23 your tuition and exam fees could be free. All adult learners who are UK residents can take out up to 4 Advanced Learner Loans. Student Finance England will ‘write off’ any outstanding Advanced Learning Loan balances you owe on completion of an eligible Access to HE course.
Assessment method
Assessment is on-going and developed through a portfolio of course work. A large proportion of your work will be essay or assignment based but you can also expect exams, presentations and project work
Progression opportunities
By completing this Access to HE Diploma, you will be able to take your first step towards a wide variety of industry careers, from software engineer or IT technician to website content manager or database developer. You will also be ready to embark on a range of degree-level courses within the computing sector. You could also progress at University Centre Weston (UCW) with degrees in BSc (Hons) Applied computing or BA (Hons) Games and Animation Production or there are degree apprenticeship routes available at UCW for Digital and Technology Solutions Degree Apprenticeship, BSc (Hons) or Digital User Experience (UX) Degree Apprenticeship.
