Access to HE Diploma: Healthcare
This course is designed for people aged over 19 years and is ideal for anyone starting, or moving into, a career in healthcare.
There are so many interesting and meaningful roles in healthcare and a career in this field means you’ll be making a positive impact every day and no two days will ever be the same.
You’ll develop personally and professionally working in healthcare, and this course is your next step towards that rewarding career.
If you are interested in a healthcare career, or you want to take your existing career to the next level, then this course will allow you to progress to undergraduate study and enhance your employment potential. If you are looking to change careers, then this course will help you make that transition and, with this qualification, you will be able to meet the entry requirements of most healthcare degrees.
You will study in college for 10 hours a week and complete the rest of your studies independently and in study skills sessions. If you are prepared to study hard, this is a great flexible course to fit around your lifestyle and working commitments - voluntary or paid work in a healthcare setting will strengthen your university application and is recommended.

Fees
With the discounts we offer most people qualify for FREE tuition and material fees. If you are aged 19- 23 your tuition and exam fees could be free. All adult learners who are UK residents can take out up to 4 Advanced Learner Loans. Student Finance England will ‘write off’ any outstanding Advanced Learning Loan balances you owe on completion of an eligible Access to HE course.
Assessment method
You will be assessed by a combination of practical assessments, coursework, project work and examinations.
Progression opportunities
This course will help you progress onto many healthcare degrees including nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, counselling and psychotherapy. You will also be able to pursue further studies in dental practice, nutrition, mental health, dementia care or a vast number of other opportunities.
Also there will be the opportunity to study at University Centre Weston on either the:
- Public and Environmental Health,?BSc (Hons)
- Health and Social Care Practice, FdSc
- Integrated Mental Health and Social Care, FdSc
- Health Care Assistant Practitioner Apprenticeship
- Nursing Associate, FdSc (Higher Apprenticeship)
- Counselling, FdSc (please note you would need a Level 2 Counselling Skills Qualification – but this can be studied at the same time)
