The Art, Media & Design (Graphics) Level 2 course is designed for adults aged over 19 years old, it offers a comprehensive exploration of the dynamic and visually captivating world of graphic design. Designed for individuals with a basic understanding of graphic design or those who have completed the Level 1 Award, this Level 2 course expands upon foundational skills and introduces students to more advanced concepts and techniques in graphic communication.

Throughout the course, students will engage in a series of practical projects and critical studies, guided by experienced instructors who are passionate about graphic design and dedicated to nurturing students' artistic growth. Students will have access to industry-standard design software and tools, enabling them to develop their technical skills and unleash their creative potential in the field of graphic design.

Most of the course will be digital-based using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator (and XD), to explore typography, branding and digital design. You’ll will be required to complete a variety of creative projects and tasks to set deadlines to demonstrate your knowledge of these subjects.

Our graphic design lecturer will guide you through these projects, encouraging you to express your own creative vision whilst developing an individual style.

By the end of the course, students will have developed a strong foundation in graphic design, equipping them with the technical skills and creative vision to produce visually compelling and effective designs. They will have gained a deeper understanding of design principles, digital design tools, and visual communication strategies. This Level 2 Award can serve as a steppingstone for further study in graphic design or related disciplines at higher levels, as well as opening up opportunities for pursuing a career in the dynamic field of graphic design and visual communication.

Subjects/Topics Covered

On the Level 2 Art, Design & Media (Graphics), you will build on the knowledge and skills gained in the Level 1 Award and cover more advanced techniques and concepts in animation. Here are some of the things you can expect to learn:

  • Advanced design techniques: You will learn more advanced design techniques, such as typography, colour theory, composition, and layout, and how to apply them effectively in your work.
  • Software proficiency: You will learn how to use specialised graphic design software, such as Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop, to create and manipulate digital artwork.
  • Branding and identity design: You will learn how to create cohesive branding and identity systems for businesses or organisations, including how to develop logos, colour palettes, and visual guidelines.
  • Print and digital media: You will learn how to design for both print and digital media, including how to prepare files for print and how to create interactive designs for the web.
  • Portfolio development: You will learn how to develop a strong portfolio of your work, including how to showcase your skills and demonstrate your design process.
  • Specialisations in graphic design: You may have the opportunity to specialise in a particular area of graphic design, such as packaging design, motion graphics, or user interface design.

Assessment Method

Entry Requirements

A Level 1 Award or have a basic understanding of graphics plus a successful interview with a member the Creative Arts team.
