All you need to know about course dates and times
British Sign Language, Frontline Staff
This course will teach frontline staff the basics of British Sign Language (BSL).
A qualification in British Sign Language (BSL) can open the door to many social, career and educational opportunities.
If you choose to study BSL at Weston College, you will benefit from being taught by our highly trained staff who have years of experience within the sector. You’ll also have the chance to practise your skills working with members of the deaf community.
You’ll be amazed how much you will benefit from having this skill. For an estimated 24,000 people in the UK who are deaf or profoundly hard of hearing, British Sign Language is the first or preferred language and means of communication. This means that we need more people to know and understand BSL than ever before. And, as well as learning valuable skills that will help you to communicate with members of the deaf community, this qualification could lead to jobs including support roles, teaching and interpreting.
This course has been developed with people who are deaf and have hearing loss and gives you the opportunity to develop your skills through practical sessions that will allow you to learn in a real-life environment.
This course is ideal for people who work in frontline services that may come into contact with deaf people, for those who would like to develop this skill for personal interest/future employment, or those who have a deaf friend, family member of colleague.
You don’t need prior experience of BSL as our tutors will take you through topics, starting with the absolute basics, including:
- Greeting and meeting people
- Numbers
- Weather
- Directions
BSL is an invaluable skill if you are in a customer facing role or even if you are working with a deaf colleague as it opens the channels of communication and will allow you to communicate effectively. This course provides a nationally accredited unit of skills.
Spaces are limited, so apply today to avoid disappointment. It takes a few minutes to apply online or you can fill out an application form.
