Site Carpentry, Diploma
This course is designed for people aged over 19 years who want to increase their carpentry skills to meet the needs of employers.
Careers in the construction industry are enjoyable and rewarding and offer hundreds of different trade routes to suit your interests. The Level 2 Site Carpentry Diploma will develop your practical carpentry skills and give you experience working with tools and equipment that are used in the trade.
This course is taught at our fantastic South West Skills Campus, which has state-of-the-art facilities, used by construction companies of all sizes, to discover and develop their future talent.
With mega-projects such as Hinkley Point C underway, and a need for 7,000 new homes in the North Somerset area, there has never been a better time to explore a new role in the construction industry.
Subjects covered:
- Health, safety and welfare in construction and associated industries
- Understanding information, quantities and communication with others
- Understanding construction technology
- Preparing and using carpentry & joinery portable power tools
- Carrying out first fixing operations
- Carrying out second fixing operations
- Carrying out maintenance to non-structural carpentry work
- Carrying out structural carcassing operations
Assessment method
You'll be assessed through practical skills tests, work observations, assignments, projects, and online assessments.
Fees
Your course may be FREE if you live in the South West of England (including the West of England Combined Authority) and:

You are defined as being unemployed.

You are employed, or self-employed, and earn less than £17,374.50 annual gross salary or less than £18,525.00 (West of England Combined Authority postcodes).

If you are 19-23 (all postcodes) or 50+ (West of England Combined Authority postcodes only) and do not hold a full Level 2 qualification.

Progression opportunities
Successful completion of this course will enable you to progress to a Level 3 Carpentry course or enter the industry with an apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements
A general understanding of the construction industry with an interest in carpentry and some basic hand skills. A previous Level 1 qualification is desirable, but not essential.
