Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care (Introduction)
This course provides an ideal taster for learners who may be new to the sector or new to the world of work. It is accessible to learners aged 19+ who may want to understand more about working in health and social care. It aims to introduce some basic concepts of caring and preparation for employment in the sector. This course is also a positive progression route from Level 2 studies.
It aims to introduce knowledge around the following areas relating to working in adult social care:
- Communication
- Equality, diversity and inclusion
- Personal development
- Role of the social care worker
- Handling information
- Health and safety
- Safeguarding
- Duty of care
- Person-centred approaches.
During this course you will need to complete a number of hours of volunteer work or employment in the relevant sector.
Future career and study opportunities
After successfully completing this course, may be able to obtain employment or an apprenticeship in many fields within the sector.
You can also enter into employment as a care worker assistant, youth worker assistant, work for a community healthcare such as a doctor’s surgery or dental practice or in care homes and hospices.

To access this course, you must be a resident of the West of England Combined Authority

There are no formal entry requirements however, prior knowledge may be helpful. A reasonable level of English skills (written and verbal) will be required. A satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS).
Previous experience of working in the health and social care sector is desirable, however, it is not an essential requirement. An Information and Guidance session will be booked prior to the course starting to assess suitability and discuss the course in more detail.
