Understanding Autism, Certificate
The Level 3 in Understanding Autism is aimed at support/teaching staff working with people on the autism spectrum in a voluntary or paid capacity, and for family members/carers who want to further develop their understanding of autism.
The course will be delivered as online lessons via TEAMS (a free download). The lessons will be delivered by our highly experienced autism specialists, who will be delivering an exciting and rewarding programme on developing knowledge, understanding and skills within the field of autism.
The course is designed to extend thought, knowledge and practical skills regarding autism and includes the following core units of study:
- Understand the diagnosis and management of autism
- Understand best practice in the context of autism
- Legislation, guidance, information and support relevant to autism
- Autism and behaviour
- Living with autism in society.
As an addition to the lessons, those who enrol will be invited to access our Autism Café - an informal virtual space to ask questions, advice and guidance on autism specific to their practice/life environment. The Autism Café is run by an autism specialist to ensure everyone has plenty of opportunity to explore their own personal development.
How will I be assessed?
There is no formal exam. Instead, you will need to demonstrate achievement of all learning outcomes within each module by submitting and passing all the assessed activities within the course.
Next steps
Upon completion of this course you can move into employment as a member of support staff working with people on the autism spectrum in a voluntary or paid capacity, or move onto a degree level course such as the Inclusive Practice FdA at UCW.
Fees
This course is FREE if you are aged 19+, do not have a Level 3 qualification (A-Level equivalent), and currently live in the South West.
