Understanding Working with People with Mental Health Needs, Certificate
The Understanding and Working with People with Mental Health Needs, Level 2 course is designed to provide learners with an introduction to mental health and an understanding of the different mental health needs individuals may experience. This course will explore the various types of mental health disorders and their causes, symptoms, and treatments.
The course will cover a range of topics related to mental health, including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, psychotic disorders, personality disorders, and substance abuse disorders. Learners will gain an understanding of how these disorders can affect individuals and their daily lives, as well as the impact they can have on family and friends.
The course will also cover the different treatment options available to individuals with mental health needs, including medication, psychotherapy, and other types of therapies. Learners will learn about the different mental health professionals who may be involved in treating individuals with mental health needs, including psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers.
In addition, the course will explore the social stigma surrounding mental health and how this can impact individuals with mental health needs. Learners will gain an understanding of how to support individuals with mental health needs and how to promote positive mental health and wellbeing.
Overall, the Understanding and Working with People with Mental Health Needs, Level 2 course is suitable for those who currently work in a health or care role and want to gain a better understanding of mental health and how to support individuals with mental health needs. It is also appropriate for those wanting to take a first step towards a career in mental health and/or health and social care. Learners next progression following the completion of this course would be onto a mental health, health or care qualification at Level 3.

To make good progress on this course learners must have a functioning literacy level at Level 1 and above (functional skills English at Level 1 and above or a GCSE English Language at grade 3/D or above). It is helpful if learners have had some previous successful experience of learning at Level 2 or above. A basic understanding of the subject matter and some prior knowledge or experience in the field would be beneficial.
