Level 3
Photography, A Level
This course can also be studied if you are an adult aged over 19 years old and is ideal if you have a creative mind and are looking for a new hobby.
Photography is the practice of creating images by recording light, either electronically by means of an image sensor, or chemically by means of a light-sensitive material such as photographic film. Photography is used in many fields such as science, manufacturing and business, as well as its more direct uses for art, film and video production.
A Level Photography is a creative and practical course which allows students to expand their creative horizons through taking and editing photographs. You will learn about the technical aspects of image making and develop an understanding of the creative process in industries using photography.
You will discover how different cameras work and how to use a variety of lighting and exposure techniques. You will learn to critique your own images and those of other photographers. You will analyse composition and photographic techniques, and you will develop ideas for your photography. By the end of the course, you will have produced a portfolio of work.
The course will be delivered with a combination of online lessons and on-campus sessions with access to photographic studios. Tutors will support you, offering a critical response and guiding your technical development throughout the course.
Assessment method
The course will be assessed through a combination of coursework and externally set assignments.
Progression opportunities
An A Level in Photography complements many Higher Education courses in art and design.
