Level 3
Psychology, A Level
This course can also be studied if you are an adult aged over 19 years old. Psychology is the scientific study of mind and behaviour. Psychologists study people in an attempt to understand why we behave as we do.
Psychology is a multifaceted discipline and includes many sub-fields of study in areas such as child development, sports psychology, health psychology, psychopathology, social behaviour and cognitive neuroscience. Psychologists perform scientific and non-scientific investigations and then apply their theoretical findings to explain everyday behaviour.
Through studying A Level Psychology you will gain transferable skills of analysis, evaluation and critical thinking. You will also gain knowledge and understanding of how science works which will prepare you for further study. If you are fascinated by the idea of understanding the human brain and the complexities of human behaviour, this course is for you.
You will learn about psychological approaches including biological, positive and psychodynamic, and discover how they relate to each other. You will also study key pieces of research covering a variety of perspectives and topics such as criminal behaviour. You will discover how psychological data is collected and can go on excursions and explore the subject in depth.
There will be three hours of teaching each week as well as weekly small group and one to one tutorials. In addition, you should be prepared to do at least three hours of reading and research outside of class each week. Delivery of the lessons will be online, with resources and extra reading posted to the shared Teams (a free download) or online classroom.
