Autocare Technician, Apprenticeship
An auto-care technician carries out a range of services and repairs to cars, car-derived vans and light goods vehicles, working in an auto-care or ‘fast-fit’ centre, which may be part of a national chain or operated by a regional or local independent group or owner. This apprenticeship is perfect for you if you have a passion for automobiles and want to develop practical and theoretical skills.

What does the course involve?
An auto-care technician also requires a unique combination of technical, retail and customer service skills, comfortably able to work in both a team and independently. They will use a range of tools, measuring and diagnostic equipment to identify and repair simple system faults.
How will the course be assessed?
The end-point assessment is formed of three assessment components - knowledge test, practical observations, and a professional review (supported by portfolio).

Many apprentices are permanently employed, though you could choose to develop your skills further by opting for the Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician (light vehicle) standard at Level 3.

Individual employers will set their own selection criteria for applicants. It is, however, recommended that you can demonstrate an interest in the occupation as well as an ability to work in an organised and methodical way to identify and solve problems. You will also need to show that you can communicate orally and in writing.
