Autocare Technician, Apprenticeship

An auto-care technician carries out a range of services and repairs to cars, car-derived vans and light goods vehicles, working in an auto-care or ‘fast-fit’ centre, which may be part of a national chain or operated by a regional or local independent group or owner. This apprenticeship is perfect for you if you have a passion for automobiles and want to develop practical and theoretical skills.

This course is for school leavers (16-19s) and is part of our Career Excellence Hubs, which brings you closer to industry than ever before. You will hear from people within the industry, who will equip you with the latest skills, to enhance your future career opportunities.

What does the course involve?

An auto-care technician also requires a unique combination of technical, retail and customer service skills, comfortably able to work in both a team and independently. They will use a range of tools, measuring and diagnostic equipment to identify and repair simple system faults.

How will the course be assessed?

The end-point assessment is formed of three assessment components - knowledge test, practical observations, and a professional review (supported by portfolio).

Are there any additional costs?

None

What future study opportunities and careers are there?

Many apprentices are permanently employed, though you could choose to develop your skills further by opting for the Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician (light vehicle) standard at Level 3.
