Skills For Life
Throughout the year, we run FREE courses, subject to eligibility, to help people improve their English and Maths.
Free English and Maths classes are suitable for you if:
- You need a Level 1 or 2 qualification in Maths and/or English for your job or further study
- You would like to gain a National Certificate in English and/or Maths
- You need to refresh your skill so you can help your children with their homework
- You missed out at school and would like another chance to learn
- You want to feel more confident with English and/or Maths in everyday life e.g. spelling, punctuation, completing forms, money skills and metric measures
- You want to take the fear out of fractions, decimals and percentages
Eligibility
To find out if you are eligible and/or to book an appointment to talk with a member of the Skills for Life team please telephone Weston College on 01934 411 481 or call in at Enrolments. We will assess your level and look for the class which best suits your needs, including daytime or evening, college campuses or community venues.
English and Maths
We offer a range of courses which lead to a City & Guilds qualification in English or Maths at a level appropriate for you. Choose from a taught course where you will learn in a small informal group, or our flexible test practice sessions where you can work independently with tutor support as required. Whatever course you decide to join, you will receive friendly support and specialist knowledge from our qualified and experienced team of tutors.
These courses are not suitable if you already have GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above.

- Maths plus Excel
- Short Grammar courses
All our classes are offered at Weston College’s Knightstone Campus, as well as community venues across North Somerset, including Clevedon, Nailsea and in Weston-super-Mare. Both daytime and evening classes are offered.
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
Our ESOL courses are also available to you if English is your second language and:
- You want to improve your reading, writing, speaking and listening
- You need a certificate in English
- You need to prepare for an IELTS test
