WHAT DOES THIS COURSE INVOLVE
You will start by learning the basics across several different areas. You will be in college full time for your first year and then one day per week in the second year, where you will be taught the technical knowledge needed to complete your apprenticeship. You will also work in our engineering workshops and labs to develop new skills.
Depending on the company that you work for, your apprenticeship will cover different disciplines such as turning, milling in the machine shop, CAD or CAM, CNC machining, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, electrical and electronics, maintenance, materials science, programmable logic controllers, composites, fabrication and welding.
ASSESSMENT METHOD
You will be assessed through workplace observations and practical tests. You will also complete online tests, assignments and produce a portfolio of evidence. This will be part of your end-point assessment.
FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES
Most students will progress into a technician-level position, to further develop their skills and knowledge to achieve a higher positioned career. You could also progress onto higher education, such as the degrees or degree apprenticeships on offer at University Centre Weston.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 9-4, including English and maths, or a qualifying Level 2 qualification. You will also be asked to attend an interview, and will need to be in relevant employment, but we can help you find this.
