"The traineeship allowed the employer to see me, rather than just my CV" - Lewis Broom.
A traineeship is a course designed for people between the ages of 16 and 24 who want to find a job or an apprenticeship but don’t have the right skills or experience. They can last up to 6 months and are tailored to suit your individual need, for example when you secure an Apprenticeship you transfer straight to it rather than waiting for the traineeship to finish.
You don’t need prior experience or qualifications. Traineeships are for people who want to learn on-the-job and open the door to new employment and training opportunities.
You’ll gain a high-quality work placement. As a trainee, you'll work in one of our partner businesses for three days a week after your work preparation in College taught by the College's traineeship team. You'll receive support from a team of tutors and specialists who will help tailor the course to your individual needs. During your work placement you will return to College on day release in order for us to prepare your next steps.
You’ll be better prepared to enter the workplace. Traineeships will help improve your confidence, help you apply for jobs, teach you transferable skills such as teambuilding, and provide you with work experience. They also will give you support and guidance to enable your smooth transition into the workplace.
It’s a great way to get into an industry. By the time you leave your traineeship you can expect to have improved your CV significantly with relevant work experience, have increased confidence and a clear idea of where you are going.
Traineeships are based around you. They are flexible courses which can be tailored to suit your learning style. You’ll have the opportunity to access support from tutors and specialists, and (if needed) we’ll help you improve your English and maths skills to the standard that most employers look for.
Traineeships are fully funded by the government. This means that you won’t have to pay to become a trainee and, depending on your circumstances, you might be able to access financial support from the College or the Jobcentre.
Plus, as a student of Weston College, you’ll benefit from our fantastic success rates and our expert teaching.
At the end of the traineeship you’ll get the chance to have a mock interview with your employer and get feedback on your performance and progress. If you decide you’d like to continue onto an apprenticeship, we’ll offer you advice and guidance to help get this process started.
