Preparing to Work in Prisons
This course is designed to give you the essential knowledge as to what it is like to work within a Prison Environment. We will discuss different prison roles and opportunities as well as looking in more depth at prison education.
The Prep to Work in Prisons course is a one week, focussed employment course looking at:
· The requirements for working within prisons
· The application and clearance process,
· The challenges of the roles, and the support available
· Prep for Interviews/ Mock Interview Practice
Prisons have a wide range of Job Roles available, some of the active job roles across some of the Prisons Weston College work with are the following:
· Lecturer ESOL
· Cover Lecture (Bank Staff)
· Vocational Assessor
· Lecturer in Health and Safety
· Lecture Engagement
· Lecturer in Construction
· Lecturer in Cleaning
Don’t worry if you don’t have any Teaching Qualifications, if you are successful in a role within the Prison like a Support Worker, you will be upskilled to gain the relevant qualifications to become a lecturer.
Assessment Methods:
There will be a series of written tasks and activities throughout the course
Attendance Requirements:
The course is delivered using Virtual attendance via Teams for 5 days (Monday – Friday, 9.30 – 2.30pm).
Entry Requirements:
· You need to be 19 or over to enrol on the course.
· You will be required to word process all written work and access Microsoft Teams, so basic computer skills and access to a PC, laptop are necessary (camera and audio are also a requirement for your full participation).
