LECTURERS

Working across the Creative Arts Department, our lecturers deliver outstanding quality teaching sessions for learners from Level 2 – Level 5.

With a primary area of focus in either Further Education, Higher Education, or Adult Learning, you will engage with learners in a classroom setting to develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours appropriate for their chosen route to industry.

Your experience in industry combined with an enthusiasm for developing the next generation of Creative professionals will make you an important role model for your learners. Lecturers work as part of a team of professionals from all areas of the Creative Arts Industry. We welcome applications from professionals with a background in any Creative Arts related field.

Please note: it is not a requirement to have a teaching qualification or teaching experience prior to application, as CPD will include a teacher training qualification for those without QTS.

In a heart warming six-week project that bridged generations through creativity, <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/art-d… College Level 1 and 2 Art and Design</a> students partnered with residents of Beach Lawns Care Home to explore the world of ceramics.This unique collaboration, which took place from the end of March through April, formed part of Weston College’s ongoing social impact work.The project began with an idea sparked by the care home, who reached out with an interest in running creative workshops. After coordinating around both the students’ and residents’ schedules, a plan was put in place to run weekly sessions that would grow in complexity and creativity.During the initial sessions, students and residents worked side-by-side to create clay coasters—an accessible introduction to working with the material.As confidence grew, the group moved on to crafting trinket dishes, with some residents showing remarkable skill and enthusiasm.In the final three weeks, the focus shifted from forming to painting, as the co-created pieces were brought to life with colour and personality.Feedback from both students and care home residents has been overwhelmingly positive. Students shared how valuable it was to engage in real conversations with the older generation—something they rarely experience in their daily lives.For the residents, the impact was equally profound. At a later museum event showcasing the group’s ceramic creations, emotions ran high as they proudly viewed their work on display.Chrystal Bliss, Art Lecturer at Weston College, said: “This project stands as a joyful reminder that when we make space for collaboration across generations, we not only craft beautiful objects—we build community, understanding, and lasting memories.“Throughout, students developed more than just artistic skills. The project offered a meaningful opportunity to build empathy, improve communication, and gain confidence in unfamiliar social settings. It has been a very rewarding experience.“There have been many highlights of this project, but one of the standout moments came when student Harry gave up his seat to support one of the residents, Eddie, and began guiding others through the process. His thoughtful gesture reflected the kindness and maturity that the project inspired among the learners.”Eva Jarvis, Art Lecturer at Weston College, added: “We also created Easter decorations with the residents, giving them the opportunity to share their creativity with loved ones during visits. On the evening of April 3rd, students from a range of fashion and creative courses at Weston College came together to showcase their talent at Elevate, a spectacular fashion show held in the Regency Suite on the Grand Pier.  This event gave learners the chance to present their work on a professional catwalk in front of friends, family, and the public. Also, the £321 raised from ticket sales will be donated to Weston Hospicecare. The show featured collections and designs from <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/art-d…; rel="noreferrer noopener" title="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/art-d…; target="_blank">A Level Fashion and Textiles</a> students, <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/art-d…; rel="noreferrer noopener" title="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/art-d…; target="_blank">Extended Diploma Fashion, Business and Retail</a> students, and <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/hair-…; rel="noreferrer noopener" title="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/hair-…; target="_blank">Fashion, Theatre, Special Effects and Media Make-Up</a> students. Some examples include explorations of the architectural contrast within the National Trust’s Tyntesfield House, designs focused on the healing potential of flora, and investigations into the psychology of nostalgia through brain scans and synaptic imagery. From intricate Sashiko-inspired patterns to visual critiques of the denim industry’s environmental impact, these students demonstrated powerful, individual visions that reflected deep personal engagement with their themes.  The creativity didn’t stop at the garments. Students from the <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/hair-…; rel="noreferrer noopener" title="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/hair-…; target="_blank">Extended Diploma in Fashion, Theatre, Special Effects and Media Make-Up</a> created stunning looks that carried strong environmental messages. Students and Community Brought Together for the Elevate Fashion Show

<a name="_Hlk195000405">Weston College </a><a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/perfo… Arts</a> and <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/creat…; students have teamed up with Avon and Somerset Police to produce a powerful new short film to educate young people on bystander intervention in situations involving violence against women and girls (VAWG).<o:p></o:p>Led by Adrian Harris, <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/perfo… Arts</a> Lecturer at the College, the project brought together FE Performing Arts students from the Acting Pathway and Year 1 FE Media students. The collaborative piece, filmed in April following months of weekly planning sessions, seeks to raise awareness of how members of the public, particularly young people, can safely and effectively intervene in violent or abusive situations.<o:p></o:p><drupal-entity alt=""Media students filming performing arts students working on a scene"" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="1517e4fc-6aea-4052-9dcd-b04b18ec6cb9" data-embed-button="file_browser" data-entity-embed-display="image:image" data-entity-embed-display-settings="{"image_style":"max_500x500","image_link":"","image_loading":{"attribute":"lazy"}}"> </drupal-entity> <o:p></o:p>Avon and Somerset Police delivered a briefing on the sensitive topic, sharing the project’s aims but offering students creative freedom. With professionalism and maturity, learners devised different approaches to intervention, enabling the Police to tailor the message to specific audiences and scenarios.<o:p></o:p>Rehearsals took place at Weston College’s Knightstone campus, with filming completed in the picturesque setting of Grove Park to lend authenticity and impact to the final production.<o:p></o:p>Adrian Harris, <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/perfo… Arts</a> Lecturer, explained:<o:p></o:p>“The students have been brilliant. After watching the short films by Avon and Somerset Police, they expressed what worked and what didn’t, whether the message was clear or not, and offered original ideas and points of view to make it relevant to the younger generation.”<o:p></o:p>“The film will be shown to secondary school students - to help them deal with issues they come across and to show the different ways that, instead of being bystanders, they can be active contributors and help prevent violence against women and girls.”<o:p></o:p>This project forms part of the <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/perfo… Arts</a> and <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/creat…; Careers Excellence Hubs. The College has fourteen sector-specific Career Excellence Hubs, which evidence our dedication to supporting both employers and learners in achieving their future goals. By creating a seamless connection between industry and education, we enable learners to acquire not only the essential skills and knowledge but also the professional networks necessary to excel in their chosen fields. <o:p></o:p>Participating students described the project as both educational and empowering.<o:p></o:p>Brooke, a <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/perfo… Arts</a> Acting Pathway student, shared:<o:p></o:p>“I think it’s important for this type of film to be portrayed by young adults like us because relationships are so common in teens, and it’s critical to show that it’s not okay to display certain behaviours, and to get that message across early on because it could prevent serious situations from happening. It’s so important that young people learn about consent and respecting people’s boundaries.”<o:p></o:p>Patrick, a <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/perfo… Theatre</a> student, added:<o:p></o:p>“This project teaches people how to not be a bystander in a situation where you may see violence against women. If I was in a real-life violent situation, I might have struggled knowing how to intervene but now I’ve gained an understanding of the different ways I can get involved and help.”<o:p></o:p>The project also offered invaluable professional development for students, many of whom were engaging in a professional filming environment for the first time. PREMIUM HOLIDAY ALLOWANCES

All establishment staff at Weston College are entitled to a minimum of 30 days plus statutory bank holidays per year (allocated on a pro rata basis for part time staff).

All staff are automatically entered into a pension scheme relevant to their role with generous employer contributions.

Business support staff are automatically entered into the Local Government Pension Scheme, provided by the Avon Pension Fund.

Not JUST available to students, college staff are also eligible to purchase a student discount card through Totum.

As well as access to the college’s in house student-led training restaurant, staff members also receive a 10% discount at The Green House coffee shop.

All employees of Weston College, are able to benefit from a free subscription to Microsoft 365 whilst employed by the College.

All staff are eligible for the Discount for Teachers scheme offering a wide range of discounts across all sectors.

‍The health and wellbeing of our staff is very important, so as well as an excellent Occupational Health referral system, the College offers the following to all staff:

• Health Assured EAP Scheme (Employee Assistance Programme). This health programme is available to all staff. The service provides free and confidential support that is available 24 hours a day.

• A dedicated Staff Welfare Officer.

• Eyesight tests - The College will contribute towards the cost of your eye examination and up to £40 towards the cost of glasses, if it is deemed necessary for your role.

• College Fitness Suite - All staff have access to the fully equipped, sport and fitness centre on the 7th floor of the Knightstone Campus. There are no membership fees involved, however a full gym induction must be completed.

• Hair, beauty and relaxation treatments - Discounts are available to all staff across the College on a wide range of hair and beauty treatments including hair cuts and colours, massage and manicures. The treatments are carried out by our Weston College students under the close supervision of the highly qualified hair and beauty lecturers.

Our workplace champions the right of staff to embrace all Afro-hairstyles. We acknowledge that Afro-textured hair is an important part of our Black employees’ racial, ethnic, cultural, and religious identities, and requires specific styling for hair health and maintenance. We celebrate Afro-textured hair worn in all styles including, but not limited to, afros, locs, twists, braids, cornrows, fades, hair straightened through the application of heat or chemicals, weaves, wigs, headscarves, and wraps. In this workplace, we recognise and celebrate our colleagues’ identities. FAQ's

WILL TEACHER TRAINING BE PROVIDED TO SUPPORT MY TRANSITION FROM INDUSTRY TO EDUCATION?

Yes – you will be placed on Weston College’s internal teacher training programme or the Education Training Foundation’s ‘Taking Teaching Further’ programme. This will include undertaking a Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (or equivalent/higher level teaching qualification).

IF I DO NOT MEET ALL OF THE ESSENTIAL CRITERIA CAN I STILL APPLY?

WILL I BE ABLE TO RETAIN MY INDUSTRY ACCREDITATION AND CURRENCY?

Yes – Weston College actively promotes staff to maintain industry currency and/or membership. The College provides an extensive CPD programme whilst supporting staff to engage with industry-specific training.
