Conference Center

Designed by renowned Victorian architect Hans Price, whose work helped shape much of Weston-super-Mare, the building originally opened in 1893 as the School of Science and Art, providing education and training for local people during a period of rapid growth and innovation within the town.

Today, the Grade II listed building remains an important part of college life, providing a distinctive learning environment where students benefit from studying within a space that reflects more than a century of educational heritage. Its striking architecture, original features and historic character make it one of the most recognisable buildings across our campuses.

The building is also home to a Blue Plaque dedicated to Hans Price, recognising his lasting contribution to Weston-super-Mare and celebrating the legacy of an architect whose work can still be seen throughout the town today. The plaque serves as a reminder of the building’s historical importance and its connection to the wider community.

Today, it provides students with a unique space for learning, enrichment activities, guest speakers, presentations and college events, allowing them to study and develop their skills within a setting that reflects the town’s rich history.

As custodians of this landmark building, Weston College is committed to preserving and protecting its heritage for future generations. Significant restoration and refurbishment work has been carried out over the years to ensure the building remains structurally sound while retaining the architectural details that earned its listed status. Ongoing conservation projects continue to safeguard its historic stonework, craftsmanship and character, ensuring that this important part of Weston’s history remains at the heart of the campus.

By carefully balancing conservation with modern educational needs, Weston College continues to give new purpose to this remarkable building, allowing learners to study in a space that celebrates both the town’s past and its future.
