Nominees Announced for Inclusive Employer of the Year 2023

With Weston College's Annual Business Awards only 5 weeks away, we’re excited to be bringing you the second of many employer award nominees articles!

In this article we’ll be talking through our nominees for the Inclusive Employer of the Year award. Nominated are: Puxton Park, Southern Co-op, Uncle Paul's Chilli Charity.

Puxton Park

Puxton Park is a 50-acre family adventure park and is one of the largest visitor attractions in the South West.

Puxton Park have been in partnership with Weston College for several years, working particularly closely with our SEND department. In 2022 Puxton attended our Inclusive employer workshops to build their understanding of recruiting and retaining a neurodiverse workforce.

Puxton now offer inclusive work experiences to our learners within the autism provision and have been consulting with the autism team to develop their inclusive offer as both an employer and local attraction.

Puxton Park are keen to maintain the partnership with the inclusive practice faculty and are in consistent communication with staff to provide a safe, supportive, and inclusive work environment where learners can thrive and begin their career journeys.

Southern Co-op

Southern Co-op is a regional, independent co-operative operating more than 300 food, funeral and Starbucks coffee branches across the south of England.

Southern Co-op have offered high quality inclusive workplace experiences to Weston College learners with SEND. These opportunities have been tailored around the specific needs of the learners to provide a supportive and inclusive environment to develop employability skills. Southern Co-op have provided some amazing opportunities for learners to gain real world experience at several of their stores, particularly highlighting Berrow and Nailsea.

Our learners have also had the opportunity to demonstrate to their local store teams and communities, the amazing talent and potential that young people with additional needs can bring to the workplace.

Uncle Paul's Chilli Charity

Uncle Paul’s Chilli Charity welcome young people and adults who may have experienced social disadvantages or barriers to learning and/or employment. Using their farmland setting, learners can learn and develop new skills, as well as gain experience and qualifications needed for successful and sustainable employment.

Uncle Paul’s Chilli Charity have been working with Weston College’s SEND department to offer essential workplace experience. Both Uncle Pauls Chilli Charity and The Red Chilli Kitchen provide many work experience opportunity's, such as catering, product packaging, marketing, and sales.

From day one of working together the team have demonstrated a clear and unwavering dedication to inclusive practice and creating a diverse and happy workplace. They take care to ensure all our learners are safe and supported in the workplace and share our values in regarding to sustainable and valued employment for all people.
