Shortlist Announced for Pre-employment Employer of the Year 2023

With Weston College's Annual Business Awards 4 weeks away, we’re excited to be bringing you the fourth of many employer award nominees articles!

In this article we’ll be talking through our nominees for the Pre-employment Employer of the Year award. Nominated are: PA Fencing, Somerset NHS Trust and Lidl

PA Fencing

PA Fencing have been a key local employer in supporting various Weston College courses including our Sector Based work Academies (SWAP) and our Constructing Lives Together (CLT) program.

PA Fencing have supported the College’s response to ‘bridging the skills gap’ in the construction sector by offering learners from our Adult and CLT courses hands on experience in this sector through a working interview.

They have demonstrated attributes of an inclusive employer offering everyone equal opportunities to experience the sector and be support into paid work. PA Fencing has continued the support and investment in their workforce, through accessing additional qualifications and certificates to further develop themselves.

Somerset NHS Trust

Somerset NHS Trust have been supporting the Sector Based Work Academy Programme (SWAP) at the College and have been providing specialised development opportunities for our learners, supporting them to find both clinical and support roles within the NHS.

Since the start of the SWAP programme partnership, Somerset NHS Trust have supported nearly 400 people into employment within the NHS.  Following these course’s they offer further training, robust IAG and look to offer all successful applicants’ roles that meet both the needs of the business and the learners. The programme has since opened up to all departments of the NHS, so the offer is now even greater with wider learner appeal.

Lidl 

Lidl have been working with the College to support our Sector Based Work Academy (SWBA) and support learners that are starting their careers. The team at Lidl have been very proactive in the training given to both, learners on their journey to employment, in supporting SBWA’s and in supporting learners in their applications and interviews and in supporting job fairs held at the college.

Lidl have shown true commitment to supporting our learners and local job seekers. As a major international employer, they have shown a remarkable willingness to engage with the local community and support individuals in their journey towards employment.
